Welcome to Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Hurricane West Virginia, founded in 1843 and continuing to serve the Teays Valley area by sharing the life-changing Good News of Jesus Christ. We celebrate a rich heritage older than the state of West Virginia, while actively ministering to the needs of people today. We believe God is leading us into a glorious future and we invite you to join us.

Please notice that we are literally under construction throughout the next year and our church plant will be changing sometimes on a daily basis. It is all designed with the idea of ministering to our community in more effective ways.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between the 8:30 am and 11:00 am services?

A: The biggest difference is location. The 8:30 service tends to be a smaller gathering of the congregation and is held in the Historic Sanctuary. The 11:00 service is a larger gathering of the congregation and due to space limitations is held in the Sanctinasium (Gym). This space limitation is being remedied through the current cunstruction project to build our new Sanctuary. The order of Worship is nearly the same with the exception of special music by the choir often being presented during the 11:00 service.

Q: Is there a required dress code?

A: The dress for all services is casual.

Q: Are hymnals used during Worship.

A: Hymnals are provided for all services with songs often diplayed on projection screens.

Q: Where do we go when we arrive at the church?

A: We have a welcome center that is staffed with those who take part in our Greeters Ministry to help you when you arrive. They can direct you and answer any questions. Please be aware that due to the current construction project the welcome center may be moving around a bit.

UPDATE: Please park in the east parking lot for the 8:30 service and Sunday School. Please park in the west parking lot if you attend only the 11:00 service. This is just untill the construction is finished.

Q: Are there activities for children during the services?

A: Yes we have a nursery available during all services for children from birth to age five. A variety of Sunday School programs are available for children age three and up. Children’s Church is held during the 11:00 Worship hour for children in grades first through fifth.

Q: Are your services more traditional or contemporary?

A: Our services are predominantly traditional with some contemporary songs, as well as special music across the spectrum of styles.
