Precept Ministries: You’re Invited

We have a special educational ministry here at Mount Vernon. It is a Bible Study called Precept Upon Precept by Kay Arthur out of Precept Ministries International of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Our teacher is Angie Ferguson.

Dr. J. Vernon McGee further tells us, “If there ever was a time when believers needed to come together, it is today. Instead of chopping down each other, we need to draw together in love around the person of Christ. We need to study the Word of God together. God has something for a group that He will not give to just an individual. We are not to forsake assembling ourselves together (Hebrews 10:25). If you have a Bible Study at your church, be sure to go because there is a blessing for you there that you cannot get when you study the Bible by yourself.”

So we are inviting you to come and join us every Monday evening at 6:00 pm, starting Monday, September 20. This year we will be studying the Book of Hebrews Sept to Dec – Part 1 and Jan to May – Part 2.

One Great Hour of Sharing

During the entire month of August we will be collecting for the One Great Hour of Sharing. Monies from this offering will be used to help many in need all over the world. This year’s goal is $2010. We ask that you pray for what you will give.

To this date we have collected $2349. That is 17% over our goal.

Back to School Back to Backpacks

It’s that time of year again! The time when kids head back to school and some kids need our help. We are asking that you bring your donations of backpack snacks so these kids don’t have to go hungry on the weekends.

Items you may donate are:

Small cereal boxes, juice pouches, fruit snacks, raisins, slim jims, small bags of chips, cereal/granola bars, pop tarts, rice crispy treats, fruit cups, pudding cups, mac n cheese cups (individual size), pasta and soup cups (microwavable, individual size).

Last year we helped feed over 40 kids each week.

WE NEED YOUR HELP to make this happen!

Donations can be brought to three collection points in the church. There will be a box in the vestibule of the historic sanctuary, in the new welcome center, and at the west entrance of the church.

This ministry continues throughout the entire school year. Please help us continue to help these kids.

Things are looking a little different here at Mount Vernon. We have recently opened our brand new sanctuary and while minor things are still being completed I have to say it is a beautiful addition to this historic Church. We hope that this new space will allow us to enhance your worship experience as well as provide the much needed room for many more to join us in experiencing the many wonders of our Lord and Savior.

Not only are we changing aspects of our physical space, but we have made a significant change to our virtual space. The website has been given a face lift and updated to be easier to navigate. There are a few features that are still coming and as with anything new not everything may be working as expected. If you experience any problems or feel something is missing please let us know by clicking here. We hope you enjoy your visits to the website. Please check back often for additional updates.

All Youth and Congregants Interested!

Join us in the Historic Sanctuary for a youth driven contemporary service. Presenting the Gospel Message through modern praise and worship, led by the youth praise team, and a message brought by Brinton Easley. This service is an extension of youth group, but is welcome to all to attend that may be looking to participate in the style of service. Sunday evenings at 6:03.

Baptism Service

Anyone wishing to be Baptized and/or join the Church, please approach either Pastor David or Pastor Jeff. A service of Baptism is being planned as part of Dedication Sunday for the new Sanctuary on July the 4th.

At the decision of the Deacons, there will be no Evening Service so you can spend this day with your family and friends.

Spring Break

Due to Spring Break week, many of the regularly scheduled activities at the church will not be held this week. Call the Life Line or your group leader to confirm if your activity will be held.

Monday April 5th all Church offices will be closed.

Pastor Jeff and his family will be on vacation during Spring Break. If a need arises please contact one of the other Pastors.

Backpack Blessings for Spring Break

This is a snapshot of all the of the backpacks and food bags that were prepared to be given to the children. This will ensure that they have something to eat over spring break as they will be away from school which is the primary source of their meals. Over 40 bags and backpacks were filled.
